From our reports: Practitioner Utilisation Rate

Each quarter, we’ll give you a sneak-peak of our dashboard reports, which give invaluable insights into your practice. Let’s start with the utilisation rate. It helps to measure the workload and productivity, notice where there’s room for improvement or if it’s time to grow and hire new staff. 

We calculate the utilisation rate per practitioner as the percentage of billable appointment hours divided by their total availability. 

What rate should you aim for? Practitioners need their time for non-billable tasks, training, networking, or other activities that contribute to their professional development. Therefore, aiming for 100% would not be ideal. You can consider 70-80% to be the golden ratio for utilisation.
